This is me once again - reporting the first time now from the South Island. The landscape here is quite similar to our country Austria. But at home, we can't enjoy our great mountains together with the sea and awesome beaches! Exactly this point makes New Zealand a special country! I can't tell you, how I will miss this all here - in about 2 weeks it's already time to say "Good bye"! ;(
Well .. I don't want to bore you with my melancolic thinkings - I'm going to tell you more of our adventures right now:
The ferry-ride was fine, but nothing special - we slept all 3 hours. ;) But the first week in the South is already over and we've already done and seen a lot - really amazing!!
We visited great villages like Nelson, Hokitika, Franz Josef and so on. And we've seen amazing things like: the Pancake Rocks + the Blowholes in Punakaiki, how to make greenstone (Jade) and we did a horse-ride as well as a scenic flight over Mt. Cook, Mt. Tasman, Fox Glacier and the West Coast! Wow - yes - this flight was really quite amazing, although Bastienne and I both felt sick! But the snowy mountains and the glaciers were really, really cool!!
At the moment we're travelling by car (as we did already), but we use it also for sleeping, eating ... We're no Wwoofers at the moment, because of the fact that there are nearly no Wwoof-Hosts around! You're most of the time alone on the road and you never know, where the next gas-station is! Yes - it sounds funny, but sometimes it isn't! Especially if you run out of gas in the middle of nowhere, but for these things we've a 5-liter-bottle in our car - yes, we're well-prepared!! :)
So we're doing lots of driving at the moment, but it's okay. I mean, I don't want to come home, knowing that I missed lots of great places!
Oh - I shouldn't forget to tell you about one of the best things: Some days ago we stayed at Hokitika at the beach, right at the point, where the sun goes down (the reason why it was called "sunset-point") and ate our Fish'n'Chips there. We watched the sunset and felt quite romantic! ;) And we also stayed there over night and you know what? We could see thousands of stars, sparkling on the sky!!! Wow - it was soooo gigantic!! Awesome, really! I can hardly describe this situation!
Since yesterday, we're staying here in Wanaka, which is a nice little town, lying next to a big lake, right between huge mountains. So you can guess, how cold the water is! ;)
We drove here all the way from Fox Glacier (about 3 hours) together with to French girls, who were hitch-hiking and were really nice! Therefore they did our laundry, we could have a shower and recharge all our batteries! Yes - cool deal!!
The weather's still very fine, especially here along the lake! If the wind isn't blowin, it's really hot! (Bastienne's quite proud that she's getting more and more brown! ;))
All in once, we're still having a good time, meeting lots of interesting people and I'm enjoying all your stories of the first snow! ;) Please keep informing me - I'm trying to do the same, but it's getting even more difficult as there are not a lot of possibilities! (We're lucky if we stay in stay in village which has a supermarket - you can trust me ... :))
Well ... enjoy the first snow, the "Gluehwein" and the Christmas-time! I'm so glad that I won't have stress because of buying lots of parcels ... Yes!!! ;)

Deutsche Version

Endlich kann ich euch das erste Mal von der wunderschoenen Suedinsel berichten! Hier erinnert mich alles an Zuhause - die gewaltigen Berge, Gletscher, Schnee und Seen - nur ist alles kombiniert mit Strand und Meer doppelt so schoen!! Genau das ist der Grund, warum ich Neuseeland so mag und warum es so speziell ist!! Kann mir gar nicht vorstellen, dass es in 2 Wochen schon Zeit ist, Abschied zu nehmen! Ich will gar nicht daran denken .. haette ich nur laenger Zeit hier ...
Naja ... ich will euch mit meiner melancholischen Stimmung nicht langweilen und berichte von unseren zahlreichen Abenteuern:
Wir haben die Pancake-Rocks + Blowholes in Punakaiki gesehen, uns wurde gezeigt, wie man Jade macht, wir waren reiten und wir haben einen Rundflug ueber die hoechsten Berge Neuseelands genossen (Mt. Cook, Mt. Tasman, Fox Glacier, West Coast)! Wow - man kann sich gar nicht vorstellen, wie beeindruckend Berge und Gletscher sein koennen (auch, wenn einem - wie Bastienne und mir - so schlecht wird .. :))
von unserem Wwoofing-Darsein haben wir uns verabschiedet und sind nun zu richtigen Trampern geworden! 1. weil es kaum mehr Wwoof-Hosts gibt hier und 2. weil uns die Zeit sonst zu knapp wird! Wir reisen von einem Ort zum anderen, duschen am Strand im eiskalten Wind und ernaehren uns von Toast-Brot und Fish'n'Chips! ;) Gewaltig, wie unabhaengig man so ist - koennte mich glatt daran gewoehnen!!
Ah - ich sollte nicht vergessen, euch von unserem einmaligen Erlebnis zu erzaehlen: Vor ein paar Tagen haben wir in Hokitika direkt am Strand, wo die Sonne untergeht (deshalb auch der Name "sunset-point") unsere Fish'n'Chips genossen, den Sonnenuntergang angesehen und schliesslich genau dort unter einem genialen Sternenhimmel im Auto geschlafen! Wow - ich hab nicht gewusst, dass Steren wirklich so funkeln koennen!!!
Momentan sind wir in Wanaka - eine tolle, kleine Stadt, die direkt an einem grossen See zwischen grossen Bergen liegt! Wir sind gestern den ganzen Weg (ca. 3 Stunden) gemeinsam mit 2 franzoesischen Maedls (haben gestoppt) hierher gefahren! Dafuer durften wir bei ihnen waschen, richtig duschen und alle unsere Batterien aufladen! Ja - wirklich ein guter Deal! ;)
Sonst: Das Wetter ist immer noch sehr fein, besonders hier, wenn der Wind nicht blaest! Ist dann richtig heiss! Haben heute nach dem Joggen! im Gras gefruehstueckt, haben uns gesonnt und relaxen!! (Bastienne ist stolz, weil sie immer braeuner wird! :))
So .. das waer's mal wieder von hier - ich hoffe, ihr haltet mich weiterhin auf dem Laufenden ueber den ersten Schnee, trinkt ein paar Gluehwein fuer mich und lasst es euch gut gehen!
Ich melde mich so oft, wie es moeglich ist - ja .. geht einfach nicht oefter! Wir sind froh, wenn wir in Orten landen, die einen Supermarkt haben! Aber echt! :)
