Im Herzen Australiens - In the heart of Australia
ENGLISH VERSION:
Like most of the visitors of Australia we booked a tour in the Red Centre - as the Aussies call it - which we made in the last three days. We flew into Ayers Rock as it is too far to drive. It's a 3 hours flight so you can imagine how long it would take you by car or by train. And it also gives you an idea of how big Australia is! Really amazing!
So we flew to Ayers Rock, got catched from the airport, brought to our resort and started our tour a few hours later. As we stayed the night before on a carpark near the airport we haven't had much sleep. Therefore we used the time till our tourstart to sleep and: Yes, we overslept! Our bus was already gone but he came back to catch us and this was the reason why our bus-driver Neil kept us in his mind! :)
During the first afternoon we visited a viewpoint to see the Olgas which are 36 huge sand-stones and are also called Kata Tjuta (=big heads). After seeing them from far we did a walk in a gorge between the Olgas. We were really impressed by the colours, the height and the natural form of these stones (they are all round, made by the mind ...). Our next stop was a carpark near the Ayers Rock where we got a small snack, a glass of wine (or 2) and waited for the sunset. It's amazing how the colours of Uluru (Ayers Rock) change if the sun sets - from red to brown to orange - was really just wonderful! We could enjoy the same colour-change on the next day as we started our Day two with the sunrise near Ayers Rock (if anyone's wondering how late we got up to gaze the sunrise: The tour started at 4.30 am, so yes - it was early!) But already at this time of the day it is hot and you can be lucky if you finish your tour in the morning at about 10.00 and have some freetime. We did two small walks after the sunrise where our bus-driver told us a lot of the Aborigines' way of life, their history and tales. As he seemed to be very interested in that himself he could give us lots of information and I really enjoyed listening to him! To finish this day-tour we stopped at the Cultural Centre but Bastienne and I were both not fascinated of that as it just seemed to be a place where the tourists should leave lots of money!
Back in the resort again we had to pack our stuff to be ready for departure at 12.00. Our next destination was Kings Canyon where we stayed in a deluxe-room (yes - we were also wondering about that but as you see at the pictures we really enjoyed our stay -> spa-pool!) Unfortunately our air-conditioning didn't work well so it was impossibly hot in our room! We couldn't sleep and woke up sweating all over a few times. I was nearly glad to get up at 5.00 am as we decided the day before to join the 3 hours walk on the top of the Canyon. It's a must to start this walk at 6.00 in the morning otherwise it would be too hot. At this day we had already 30 degrees in the morning! At the beginning I wasn't sure wheather I can do that walk or not but after having passed the 400 steps to reach the top, I knew we can do it! We were adviced to bring at least 2 litres of water per person as your body looses 1 litre every hour in such a heat. But you really can't imagine how great, fascinating, interesting this walk was!! Our guide Angie was such a lovely and informative person - it was just great to listen to her explanations of how the Canyon was formed! She explained everything very well so we could tell you a lot of the Canyon itself as well as the flora and fauna now!
After this fascinating 3 hours on the top of the Kings Canyon (in 43 degrees), we drove back to the resort and had 1,5 hours till we left for our last destination Alice Springs.
Well ... and here we are! Having already visited the Royal Flying Doctors, the baby kangaroo rescue centre (!!) and much more places ...
Looking back at the things we did the last days I can just ensure you that I know now why these places are so famous. Although 100s of people come here and although these places are overcrowded, they are one of the most fascinating places in the world! If someone of you would get the chance to go there, go there and you'll enjoy it!! Before we did this tour we have only seen beaches so I wasn't impressed by Australia. But now I know why I'm here and I'm really looking forward to all the places we gonna visit in the next few weeks!!

Wie die meisten Urlauber Australiens haben auch wir eine Tour gebucht im Roten Zentrum. Wir flogen zum Ayers Rock, da es zu weit weg ist, um zu fahren. Da wir 3 h flogen, koennt ihr euch vorstellen, wie lange wir mit dem Auto oder Bus gebraucht haetten. Ihr habt nun auch eine Vorstellung davon, wie gross Australien ist! Wirklich beeindruckend!
Wir flogen also zum Ayers Rock und wurden dort - Gott sei Dank - vom Flughafen abgeholt und ins Resort gebracht. Da wir bis zum Tourstart noch genug Zeit hatten, gingen wir schlafen, da wir in den Tagen davor nur wenig Schlaf bekommen hatten. Und: Klar - wir verschliefen! Unser Bus war natuerlich schon weg, aber er kam extra wegen uns noch mal zurueck, also keoennt ihr euch vorstellen, dass sich unser Busfahrer Neil unsere Gesichter gut eingepraegt hat! :)
In den folgenden Stunden haben wir uns von den Olgas - einer Ansammlung von 36 runden Sandsteinen, die auch Kata Tjuta (=viele Koepfe) genannt werden - verzaubern lassen! Wir machten einen Spaziergang durch eine riesige Schlucht zwischen 2 von den Olgas. Danach konnten wir bei einem kleinen Snack und einem (oder 2) Glass Wein den Sonnenuntergang bewundern, der Uluru (Ayers Rock) richtig erleuchten liess! Wir waren am Ende dieses Tages ganz fasziniert vom Farbenspiel (orange, braun, rot - hell und dunkel) und der Groesse der Olgas und Ayers Rock. Mit dem Sonnenuntergang hoerte dieser Tag auf, mit dem Sonnenaufgang fing der naechste Tag an. Wenn sich einige von euch fragen, wie frueh wir dafuer aufstehen musstens: Sehr frueh, um 4.30 ging's naemlich los. Ausserdem machten wir an diesem Morgen noch zwei weitere Walks rund um den Ayers Rock, bei dem uns unser Busfahrer viel vom Leben der Aborigines und der Geschichte und den Sagen um Ayers Rock erzaehlte. Wir genossen seine Erzaehlungen, die er in gut verstaendlichem Englisch interessant herueberbrachte! Vom Kulturzentrum danach waren wir beide nicht angetan, weil es wie eine reine Geldabzocke aufgezogen wird!
Zurueck im Resort packten wir unsere Sachen, damit wir fur die Abfahrt um 12.00 gerichtet waren. Unser naechstes Ziel war der Kings Canyon, wo wir im deluxe-Zimmer untergebracht waren. Wir haben uns auch gefragt, warum, aber egal: Wir genossen den Luxus -> Spa-Pool! (siehe Fotos) :)
Am naechsten Morgen ging es um 5.45 wieder los, da wir uns am Vortag fuer den 3-stuendigen Walk entschieden haben. Da man die meiste Zeit direkt am Gipfel des Kings Canyon in der Sonne geht, muss man unbedingt um 6.00 beginnen. Nachdem wir den Aufstieg (400 Stufen bis zum Gipfel) geschafft hatten, wussten wir, das es zu schaffen war. Anfangs war ich skeptisch, da ich schon ein wenig Angst vor der grossen Hitze hatte. Da sie uns aber vorher ermahnt haben, mindestens 2 Liter Wasser pro Person mitzunehmen (der Koerper verliert 1 Liter Wasser pro Stunde in dieser Hitze), tranken wir viel und fuehlten uns daher fit! Unsere Fuehrerin Angie war eine tolle, interessante Person, die uns ueber die Entstehung und die Flora und Fauna im Canyon super informierte! Wir waren absolut begeistert ueber alle Details, die Farben des Canyon und darueber, wie gut wir uns alles merken konnten!! Wir koennten euch nun alles genau selbst erklaeren ... Nach diesen 3 faszinierenden Stunden im canyon fuhren wir zurueck ins Resort, packten unsere Sachen und weiter ging's zum letzten Ziel, Alice Springs!
Und hier sind wir nun! Wir haben bereits die Basis der Royal Flying Doctors, die Baby-Kaenguruh-Rettungsstation und viele Sachen mehr gesehen!
Wenn ich nun die letzten Tage und Erlebnisse Revue passieren lasse, dann bin ich wirklich restlos begeistert! Ich weiss nun, warum jeden Tag 100te von Menschen in das Zentrum Australiens pendeln und sich dieser Hitze aussetzen!! Bevor wir hierher kamen, haben wir nur Straende gesehen und da ich Straende auch in Italien haben kann, war ich von Australien nur wenig angetan (vor allem nach 2 gewaltigen Monaten in Neuseeland)! Aber nun weiss ich, warum ich hier bin und freu mich immer mehr auf die bevorstehenden letzten Wochen an der Ostkueste, auf der es noch viel zu entdecken gibt!!!
Wenn also jemand von euch irgendwann die Moeglichkeit hat, hierher zu kommen, dann nuetzt diese Moeglichkeit und geniesst eure Zeit hier!
